Buprenorphine.
A new treatment exists to help people who are addicted to opioids. (OxyContin, Heroin, Vicodin, Percocet, lortabs, Methadone, etc.) It was approved by the FDA in October 2002. It now makes recovery possible for people that could not quit before. It can completely eliminate the debilitating physical cravings and withdrawal symptoms, that until now had to be endured in order to quit. Suboxone is also less likely to be abused. If someone takes Suboxone they cannot get high from other opioids for up to 72 hours, it completely blocks the effects. Also there is an ingredient in it that if someone were to crush and inject the drug, it would put them into instant withdrawal. This makes diversion unlikely for any purpose other than getting off opiates. It also has a ceiling effect, at a low dose the effects level off and no matter how much more is taken there is no additional effect. This makes an acccidental fatal overdose virtually impossible, for opioid tolerant people. The best part is it can be prescribed by a doctor. You do not have to go to a clinic or a long term detox farm. Recovery is possible without taking time from work or family.
